I wanted to capture the mist. So I started again with a limited palette

Here's my painting from last week. I worked on the water to try to get the surface to show up over the darker water underneath. I also worked on the foreground rocks and made that "shadow" look more like the seaweed it was ;)

I was just thinking how Van Gogh can relate to Joseph Albers ideas on color. In this painting blue means sky and also means road and mountain and ground. Red means road and roof top and path. In this way color’s meaning and referent shifts and plays across the experience.

Spring 2024 I took my very first painting class. SO inspiring to have Sam as a guide and teacher. I set up a studio in my garage. It only takes up a 5x5 space. I don’t know what painting style I really am? My husband “commissioned” me to paint our view. He understands realism so that’s what I did. I

Thank you Sam, that was a great synopsis, very helpful. I spent a bit more time at home on this after hearing your comments. I lightened up the water and added depth to the hills. Let me know what you think.
