Sam, thank you for your recap and I can relate to your idea of Tetris and editing a document! This is what happened when I tried to fix the original a few times. Posting two final versions. I went with blue tones instead of what was actually there.
Version 1 — Concentrated on depicting the curves of the hills and the arbor arch.
Version 2 — a lot more detail, and I always wanted to try this method of patches of color on color, rather than blending things out as I tend to do.
