A Little Time to Make Art Every Week

In its 13th session

Live Online Art Workshops
Learn to Paint
With Sam Payne
A time each week to slow down and pay attention to the poetry and creativity of painting - For all levels.

What is Painting Really?
You scroll through social media and see so many styles and methods to make a painting -
You try it on you own -
But it just feels like some things aren't clicking. You can't get the color right, you don't know how to start, the paint seems to be drying too fast, the objects look flat ...
Sam teaches the fundamentals and various styles of painting so that they rhyme with the content and carry meaning.
Sam has designed each exercise, demonstration, and slide show to connect the dots.
If you want to learn about color, composition, creativity, the history of art, create meaningful moments...
These workshops are for you
At the end of each class you will have taken creative risks, learned new skills, engaged in new ways of talking about art, and experienced fresh ways of seeing.

What Sam's Students Are Saying About The Workshops
“I was resistant to learning to paint on Zoom but it is actually wonderful. I can keep my studio setup and Sam has the 2 cameras dialed in with incredible art history slide shows and easy to see palette and canvas demonstrations.”
Claire R - Spring 2023 Student
"Sam sets a nice positive tone in the class. He modeled having fun, experimenting, and discovering in a unique way.”
Bill S - Winter 2024 Student
"Sam helped me to see color differently. The activities in his classes helped me to not just see color, but to experience it. I look more closely now at how light, and the proximity of other colors can change my perceptions."
Sandra F - Winter 2026 Student

A Unique Approach to Virtual Arts Learning

Sam built Potato Chips Paint Shop to
1. Inspire students to make time for art each week,
2. Foster a space for poetic living and process based learning.
3. Promote dialogue within a wonderful community interested in learning about the history of creativity through hands on painting experience.
Sam does not teach a cookie cutter technique
1. He inspires each individual to follow their own path in art and creativity.
2. He has the rare ability to teach the basics and at the same time give these foundations deep historical and creative meaning.
3. Each project has been custom created from the ground up by Sam and tested with students of all levels over the last 10 years.
What Sam Recently Said About Teaching

"Some of the best moments for me have been in the middle of class when I realize there has been silence for 30 minutes except for the sounds of brushes and paint mixing as each student is in this kind of intense private but also shared virtual space. It is almost like we are supporting each other in being alone each week."
"It is a great feeling when students realize that there is a conversation to be had around preconceptions of beauty and when it feels like we are in a space of listening to what each of us are trying to make sense of."
"It has been wild to see students that started painting with me several years ago and now have built studios and their painting and art practice has really become a large part of their life."
